Website offers support for Aneurysm Victims

Due to medical advances, Brain Aneurysms survivors have become common. Resources to help survivors deal with the debilitating and traumatic aftereffects are not following suit. One survivor has taken up the challenge to help other victims recover.

Each year, in the United States alone, more than 30,000 people will experience a ruptured Brain Aneurysm. Of these, some 60% die or suffer permanent disability and half of the survivors will suffer significant neurological dysfunction. It has been estimated that 1 in 15 people will develop an Aneurysm in their lifetime and most are completely unaware, as Aneurysms very often exhibit no symptoms until they burst. An early Neurosurgeon listed "sudden death" as the first symptom of an Aneurysm.

An Aneurysm is a swelling or ballooning out of a blood vessel that is often described as being like a berry on a vine. When discovered early before rupturing, a more common occurrence with modern medical imagining devices, surgeons can usually repair or at least reduce the risk of rupture. When the Aneurysm bursts, survival is questionable at best.

For those fortunate enough to survive, recovery is a long and difficult journey with no guarantees. Resources are few and as Neurosurgeons and Neurologist compose less than 1% of all physicians, many communities will have no local source of support. Even where resources exist, many medical professionals are left scratching their heads for the best methods of treating Aneurysm survivors as, for the most part, the brain is still a vast unexplored wilderness.

Frustrated with the lack of resources one survivor of a ruptured Brain Aneurysm took matters into his own hands. A former Mechanical Designer with a strong computer background he created a website www.aneurysmsupport.com. While Aneurysm websites are not unique, this one has taken a different approach. It carries the standard fare of Aneurysm information and data, and continually adds more, but what sets it apart is the interactive forum, the first for a website to be dedicated exclusively to Aneurysms. This forum allows any survivors with internet access to join in discussions related to Aneurysms, ask questions, and share their own experiences with others. Comments and discussion range from hospital and surgeon recommendations, insurance questions, and rehabilitation ideas to things as mundane as what to have for dinner. It also serves as a sounding board for those frustrated by the debilitating effects of a ruptured Aneurysm, those desperate to help a stricken family member and, sadly, those who mourn a lost loved one.

Another side-benefit of the site is that it provides a social outlet for those who, due to the Aneurysm, can no longer participate in the more traditional social outlets. Victims often lead lives of forced isolation and the website's forum provides a means of social contact for those who otherwise might have none.

To view the site visit www.aneurysmsupport.com, membership in the forum is free and open to anyone who has been touched by this dreaded disease.
