UK Coating Specialist Offers Round Shank Tool Coatings from Leading German Manufacturer

Following an investment of £1.2 million, coating specialist Tecvac has concluded an exclusive licence agreement with CemeCon to provide their complete line of resilient coatings to UK tool manufacturers and users.

Following an investment of GBP1.2 million, coating specialist Tecvac has concluded an exclusive licence agreement with CemeCon, the German advanced coatings producer. Under the agreement Tecvac is now providing the complete line of CemeCon resilient coatings to UK tool manufacturers and users. At their Cambridge site, Tecvac, is able to fully replicate CemeCon processes. The company is fully authorised to market these and other CemeCon branded coatings throughout the UK. Processes are backed by on-site metallurgical laboratories, equal to those of leading universities, to provide coating characterisation, compliance verification and documentation.

Tecvac has installed a complete suite of process equipment. This includes an automatic wet process system for component preparation prior to coating, integrated with a high capacity CemeCon 800/9 XL magnetron sputtering coating system. The plant will be used for coating of carbide insets and round shank tooling. Producing a super smooth micro thin film, free from pinholes and droplets, the finish can be further enhanced by post-coat wet processing if required.

Business development manager, Ian Haggan, explained, "The cutting of carbon fibre composites or hardened alloys requires frequent tool changes to sustain quality standards and this can hold back productivity. This is especially problematic for aerospace and advanced engineering companies. Highly resilient CemeCon coatings ensure rotational tooling runs cooler, remains sharper for longer, and so reduces the need for tool changes to maintain the quality yield from capital intensive plant. The CemeCon coated tools will remain effective for longer than conventionally coated tools even in the most arduous applications."

Tecvac offer the complete line of pure diamond coatings, CarbonSpeed, FiberSpeed and MultiSpeed from CemeCon. The company also provide CemeCon's Hyperlox, ALOX SN2, CCAluspeed, TinALOX SN2, and HSN2. The NadCap approved Cambridge factory works on key programmes with aerospace majors, engineering component suppliers and universities. The facility operates under the AS9001 quality assurance system and has NadCap and multiple company approvals.

Many companies operate lean manufacturing systems so Tecvac has a dedicated fleet of over 35 vehicles, to service every part of the UK. The company guarantee a 48 to 72 hour turnaround service for UK tool manufacturers.

Ian Haggan concluded, "CemeCon recognise that as an independent coating specialist, with no links to tool producers, Tecvac is a partner that can offer UK customers both expertise and an exceptional quality of service. This is not commercially compromised, because we are a coating specialist, not a tooling manufacturer. We have the full commitment of our directors to expand capacity further in the future and are fully confident that the UK market for these processes will continue to grow."

Tecvac is a Wallwork Group company. In addition to the CemeCon range of coatings, the company is able to offer its own range of specialised surface treatments to improve corrosion, erosion and chemical resistance of components. The site at Cambridge is complimented by plants in Birmingham and Manchester enabling the company to provide complete national coverage. Other surface engineering services available in the group include a comprehensive range of thermal processes including heat treatment, case hardening, annealing, nitro carburising, brazing, and other processes. All sites have extensive aerospace approvals and are fully equipped with metallurgical laboratories for process verification and quality assurance.
