Twelve Years A Slave Researcher To Attend Glens Falls Book Fair

David Fiske, author of Solomon Northup: His Life Before and After Slavery, will be one of the authors participating in Autumn Leaves: the Glens Falls Chronicle Book Fair.

The author of Solomon Northup: His Life Before and After Slavery, will be participating in Autumn Leaves: the Glens Falls Chronicle Book Fair on November 4, 2012.

Solomon Northup was a free black man living in Saratoga Springs, New York, when in 1841 he was lured into leaving the state, and was sold into slavery. After being rescued nearly twelve years later, he authored a book, Twelve Years a Slave, about his life.

David Fiske's book reveals details of Northup's life after his return to upstate New York. In addition to informing the public about the horrors of slavery via his book, Northup traveled around the Northeast giving public lectures, was connected with several theatrical productions about his experiences, and worked with an underground railroad agent in Vermont to help fugitive slaves reach freedom in Canada.

Fiske has also authored another book titled Easy Meals for Lazy Guys, which is something of a kitchen survival guide for men who, for whatever reasons, have to cook for themselves.

The 17th annual Book Fair will take place on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Queensbury Hotel located at 88 Ridge Street in downtown Glens Falls, New York. The event is open to the public at no charge.

At the Book Fair, dozens of authors, including Mr. Fiske, will be displaying, signing, and selling their books. All varieties of books will be included: children's books, regional history, travel guides, Adirondack titles, outdoor guides, pictorial volumes, poetry, mysteries, science fiction stories, and cook books.

Attendees will be able to interact with authors as they staff their tables. In addition, some formal presentations will be scheduled.
