Tube packaging is evolving from a component that was basically used for mass market and personal care products to one that is now being used for cosmetic and treatment products. A tube is a superb package: It is economical, clean, very practical, you can open it and close it, carry it in your pocket or your purse, it has good shelf life and it's convenient to hold.

A new laminated tube was recently won an award from European Tube Manufacturers Association, because of its intricate decoration that combine two print technologies- photo-like graphics and Hot stamping.

This is owes to decoration and manufacturing advancements. Tube manufacturers themselves have given companies greater options in color, decoration and dispensing systems. There is no longer just a basic screw-on cap.

The increased customization options available to brands have also driven an increase in the types of products utilizing tubes. It's evolved from a component that was basically used for mass market and personal care products to one that is now being used for cosmetic and treatment products.

Within the past decade, new printing techniques have been introduced that have improved the way tubes are decorated. Servotube, is one of new printing technique for 3D extruded plastic and aluminum cosmetic tubes.

This printing technology uses both flexographic and screen printing principles on the same printing press and at high speed. Servotube technology has been implemented widely, because it can print perfect photographic quality which the photographic quality decor can up to 175 lines per inch in production. However, it will cost per print one third of the cost of a label on average.

It is worth mentioning that another new printing technology- Flex Tech, has introduced, which marketed as an alternative to labels. Flex Tech enables photographic printing quality directly on tubes and can also be used in combination with silkscreen processes and metallic printing.

Color expression is also an advancement of tube printing. More vibrant colors and complicated color matches are pushing the brand markets. This requires the use of dual-layer printing. The outside layer and inside layer of tube will be printed in different color, which is increasing the intensity of the color printed on the outside layer.
