The Upper Room Receives Grant from the Bishop's Charitable Assistance Fund

Funds will be utilized to operate the non-profit's food pantry

The Upper Room, a Family Resource center announces receipt of a $1,500 grant from the Bishop's Charitable Assistance Fund to operate its food pantry. The Bishop's Charitable Assistance Fund makes grants to tax-exempt organizations without regard to religious affiliation for projects that help people in New Hampshire meet their basic needs. The Fund is operated by volunteer lay men and women who serve as Directors and who make recommendations to the Bishop of Manchester for grants to any organization in New Hampshire whose mission is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Fund raises money through solicitation of individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations. An annual accounting of funds raised and disbursements is available at www.catholicnh.org/BCAF.

The Upper Room's food pantry relies on donations (both food donations and monetary gifts) to serve the 120 plus families it feeds each month. Serving the Greater Derry community, the food pantry is open weekly, and offers healthy nutrition meal options to those in need.

"This generous grant from the Bishop's Charitable Assistance Fund will go a long way in ensuring the sustainability of our food pantry. As always, the focus is on our community and this grant comes at a perfect time. The summer season does not yield high amounts of food donations, so The Upper Room's food pantry will make great use of these funds. We are extremely grateful to have been selected as a recipient of this grant."

For those in need of meals, The Upper Room's food pantry is open on Mondays from 11am - 1:00pm. Please call 603-437-8477 for more information.
