The Singers' Cabaret Workshop

A unique workshop for singers wanting to explore cabaret, run by leading practitioners, will take place 18-28 March 2013 at the Musical Theatre Academy, London.

In recent years there has been an explosion of interest in cabaret with many acts achieving high-profile success: Camille O'Sullivan, Fascinating Aida, Miaow Miaow, Frisky & Mannish, Tim Minchin, all acts who started in and retain a connection to the cabaret scene.

But what is cabaret? Combining elements of music, comedy, theatre and storytelling, cabaret is a unique live performance experience.

The only course of its kind in the UK, The Singers' Cabaret Workshop is a unique opportunity to be mentored by top UK cabaret practitioners to craft your own totally individual cabaret set and persona.

Ideal for anyone with previous singing experience looking to gain new skills and hone their craft. From professionals experienced in other musical styles looking to explore new ways of making money to singers already on the cabaret scene who would like to develop their current skills and benefit from performing in front of potential bookers and agents.

The 9-day course will culminate in a showcase performance for invited industry professionals, offering the rare opportunity for participants to network and demonstrate their newly-developed skills in front of leading professionals in the cabaret field.

The Venue
The MTA is housed in its own building conveniently situated on the Holloway Road, North London. The venue, which historically was an old shoe factory, was lovingly redeveloped into a dance space in 2006. The MTA took over the building in October 2011. The space includes two versatile dance studios (one of which can be divided up), complete with sprung floors and air conditioning; a green room area for students and staff; plus additional sound proofed areas for individual singing lessons and private practice.
