The 5 W In A Webinar (For Attendees)

The term webinar is short for Web-based Seminar, a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web, specifically a portmanteau of web & seminar, to describe a specific type of web conference.

WHAT is it exactly?
If we check in Wikipedia*, the term webinar is short for Web-based Seminar, a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web, specifically a portmanteau of web & seminar, to describe a specific type of web conference.
But for an easy version of this definition, let´s try to think about a webinar as a way to attend a conference without leaving home. You can cut down on travel expenses, time out of the office and CO2 emissions. So start using your computer and headset, make your own coffee, pick your perfect place and pay attention to the presentation.

WHO can join?
Everyone, of course as long as you are interested in the topic. You just have to select the Webinar you are interested to participate in, fill out the online registration form and submit it. Immediately thereafter you will receive the confirmation email with the joining links. When the webinar is about to start, simply click on the link in your confirmation email to join us online where you will get visual prompts to join the audio.

WHERE?
¨I'd like to join the webinar. Where is the venue?
Is it going to be in Barcelona? I can't. I'm from Cologne."
For those who never attended a webinar before, the "venue" question is always asked. The answer: anywhere where you have an Internet connection. Still confused? Well, here are some options from where you can attend a webinar:

• Your home: If you have a DSL connection set up at home, attending a webinar from your home office, bedroom or your living room, is the way to go. Pick a spot where you are comfortable and start taking notes and interact.

• Office: As most webinars are scheduled during working hours, you can attend the webinar from your office. We are pretty sure that you have an Internet connection at work.

• Any Wi-fi spot: Are you working outside of your office? Grab a coffee and attend the session at your favorite bar. Maybe the connection will be a little bit low and we have to warn you that without headsets the audio might not be very clear. Pick a quiet spot and join in.

As the word itself describes, this is an online event, a seminar presented over the internet (or Web). So it´s your choice from where you want to join, as long as you have an Internet connection. A webinar's venue is wherever you want it to be!

WHEN?
We advise you to join the webinar 10 minutes before the starting time. So you will have time to arrange your headset, microphone and everything that you need. If you are not sure about the exact timing of a webinar in your region, please use the time zone converter and add the time zone by pressing the 'time zones' button behind the first line and fill in your location in the second line to convert. Go to the time zone converter (link) or check our website as we have several time zones listed. All of our webinars are also recorded so that you can watch it at your own convenience. It is always better though to attend the live webinar as this allows you to ask questions.

WHY?
OK so now we assume that you know what a webinar is. Still asking why you should attend one? Well, here are some reasons to give you a push:

• Maybe you like travelling, but sometimes you just can´t go whenever a good conference is held, whether in Madrid, Chicago or even Singapore. So unlike traditional events, in a webinar you can participate right from your desk or home office. Pros: more cost effective and more convenient.
• Interaction: you can participate, chatting, asking questions, giving feedback and sometimes even participate in live conversation.
• Don´t have time to attend it now? Do not worry, many webinars are archived, so you can watch and re-watch it at a later date.
• And not to forget that it´s free to attend our webinars. Valuable content at no cost!

And now, after all we have said about webinars, it would be silly not to invite you to attend one of ours:

On Tuesday, November 29th at 18.00 CET (Amsterdam)/17.00 GMT (London)/12.00 EST (New York) we will be presenting a Cloud Computing webinar: Cloud Infrastructure & Security aspects
