Online, July 8, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Warren: Senior citizens believe that self-responsibility and a community working towards a common goal is a formula for success. It is with that thought that Tods Crossing created the Senior Safety School, S.T.E.P. UP! Safety Takes Every Person.
The school offers a curriculum empowering seniors and family caregivers with skills and knowledge necessary in today's world for personal safety in the home and in the community.
The 12-week class encompasses an array of senior safety issues offering education on such topics as; fall prevention in the home, how to safely report a crime, safe driving, medication management, common senior scams, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, elder abuse and domestic violence and more.
Tods Crossing, a National Church Residences, is dedicated to providing quality, safe, and affordable housing for senior citizens. Tod's manager, Barbara Mascio, successfully obtain a senior safety grant through The Carol Mount Peterson Resident Development Fund facilitated by the Ohio Capital Corporation. The grant provided monies for private security patrols, the installation of the security cameras, and the Senior Safety School.
Other measures that have always been in place for the 130 plus seniors that reside at Tods include prescreening applicants and their caregivers for criminal history, enforcing the zero tolerance drug use and activity lease addendum, along with frequent inspections, all of which have made Tods a very safe environment for seniors.
"We work with and cooperate with all levels of law enforcement, the SW Neighborhood Association, Warren Weed and Seed, and other community activists who fight every day to reclaim the SW side of Warren from the consequences often associated with economic decline", states Mascio. She went on to offer, "We're a business. One that serves the community of Warren and one that serves our elder population. We intend to remain the responsible partner that we have become and build on our excellent record of service."
Any senior residing in the city of Warren can register to attend the Tods Crossing Senior Safety School by phoning 330-399-2224. Classes are free and the C.P.R. certification cost of $30 will be waived with perfect attendance. Classes are held the first three Fridays each month beginning August 3rd with the last class on November 16th. The Graduation Ceremony is on December 7th where graduates receive the 2012 S.T.E.P. UP! Certificate, a class picture, and a class T shirt.
