Satish Babu Is President-Elect Of CSI

The President of InApp, Mr. Satish Babu, has been elected as the Vice President cum President Elect of the Computer Society of India for the term 2011-12.

The Computer Society of India, headquartered in Mumbai, is the oldest and largest body of computer professionals in India. CSI is committed to advancement through the use of Information Technology in all domains of life. CSI has a member base of over 60,000 that includes top business leaders, computer professionals, academicians, researchers, students and users. The Society has 61 Chapters and over 300 Student Branches across the country. The main objectives of the Society are to promote exchange of IT information among specialists and the public, to assist professionals maintain integrity and competence, and to foster a sense of partnership among IT professionals.

Satish Babu is a promoter and currently the President of InApp, an IT Services company based out of the US, Japan and India. He has been an IT consultant, designer, developer and trainer for nearly two decades. He is an active proponent of Open Source Technologies and is the Convenor, Special Interest Group of CSI on Free and Open Source Software (IC-FOSS). He is currently the Chair, of IEEE Kerala Section, the Asia-Pacific Coordinator for the Geographic Unit Operations Committee, IEEE Computer Society (2009, 2010, 2011) and Co-ordinator, Distinguished Visitor Programme of IEEE Computer Society (2011). He has been a Visiting Professor at several institutions including the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) and the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K). He is a co-founder and Executive Secretary of the Society for Promotion of Alternative Computing and Employment (SPACE), an inter-disciplinary society with participation from the Government of Kerala.

During his tenure he hopes to strengthen CSI, both as a vibrant, democratic, membership-based society, as well as a technical content provider; Continue to build partnerships with different institutions; Promote and enhance CSI's role in IT applications for the masses, including Education, Socio-economic Development and Disaster Management; Interface with government, trade organizations, civil society organizations and academia to enhance the visibility of CSI; Create new initiatives in areas of contemporary interest to India such as Green Computing and e-Waste Management; Create a single repository of all content generated through CSI events; Strengthen the CSI units such as Chapters, Divisions, Regions and SIGs.
