Proxima Launches Study into Scope for Change Through Supply Chain Management

Proxima launch new global study into supplier engagement in partnership with Oxford University

Proxima, the world's largest pure-play procurement outsourcing and services provider (www.proximagroup.com), has today launched a new study that seeks to establish how supplier engagement can change the way that businesses operate.

The three-month study is expected to draw on the perspectives of a large cross-section of international business and will poll sector participants on the ways in which suppliers contribute to the changing ways that their businesses operate.

This study follows Proxima's last major research study into the trend of corporate virtualization, which analysed the trends towards externalisation of company activities and the implications for cost management among large organisations.

That report found that large businesses spend 70% of their revenues on suppliers, but many continue to struggle to gain maximum value from those relationships - particularly in non-core, high spend areas (such as Marketing, IT, Professional Services and Facilities Management).

Improved management of these spending areas can be a driver of business performance financially, and in terms of environmental and social impact, and this research seeks to explain how.

Guy Strafford, Chief Client Officer of Proxima, said:

"In building a comprehensive picture of the difference a deep, proactive approach to supplier engagement can make, it is essential to analyse the impact that suppliers can have on the way that a business operates.

Our previous studies have provided critical data which strongly indicates that full value from supplier engagement is not being realised - not only in cash terms, but in terms of research, development, innovation, market intelligence and resulting improvements to risk management and visibility on future cost trends. We look forward to sharing the results with participants later this year."
