U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce Endorses Mary Landrieu for U.S. Senate as the Clear Choice For Louisiana

"Re-electing Mary Landrieu to the U.S. Senate will assure Louisiana citizens that their voices are heard loud and clear - and with respect from both sides of the aisle - in Washington, DC."

“Today, the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce (http://uswcc.org) announces our strong endorsement of Mary Landrieu for re-election to the U.S. Senate from the great state of Louisiana,“ states Margot Dorfman, CEO. “Re-electing Mary Landrieu to the U.S. Senate will assure Louisiana citizens that their voices are heard loud and clear – and with respect from both sides of the aisle – in Washington, DC.”

“Senator Mary Landrieu is one of a handful of leaders in Washington, DC who has successfully charted her own, independent path in political leadership,” says Dorfman. “Senator Landrieu has worked fervently and with great success on behalf of the citizens of Louisiana, leveraging strong relationships within both parties, to get things done when her state most needed powerful leadership in Washington, DC. Landrieu secured more than $120 billion in recovery dollars for the Gulf Coast and last year she successfully passed legislation that brought about the cancellation of nearly $400 million in loans from Hurricane Katrina for impacted Louisiana parishes,” adds Dorfman. “Mary Landrieu never takes her eye off of the needs of Louisiana’s communities while advocating to both Republicans and Democrats to do what is right for America.”

"Her leadership, her competency - and her will to do the right thing for the people of Louisiana, is formidable."

Margot Dorfman, CEO

“I know first-hand of Senator Landrieu’s independent and influential leadership style,” continues Dorfman. “As the past Chairwoman of the Senate Small Business Committee, the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce frequently engaged with Senator Landrieu to fight for access to capital and federal contracts for small businesses. I can testify from direct experience that Senator Mary Landrieu worked diligently and forcefully with Republicans and Democrats to craft and pass effective legislation to support small business lending programs and increased access to federal contracts,” adds Dorfman. “Her leadership, her competency – and her will to do the right thing for the people of Louisiana, is formidable.”

“Senator Mary Landrieu is also a champion of women’s economic priorities,” states Dorfman. "In the Senate – knowing that Louisiana ranks second-to-last in equal pay for women, Landrieu co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act. Mary understands how the failure to pay women equal pay for equal work undermines the strength of Louisiana’s middle class families,” says Dorfman. “Senator Landrieu agrees that the current minimum wage of $7.25 is too low for Louisiana families and that the minimum wage should be raised. Also, Landrieu supports paid medical leave to protect families and she supports a woman’s right to make medical decisions with her physician, without government interference,” adds Dorfman.

“As the former Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Senator Landrieu fought hard for small businesses in Louisiana and throughout the country. She believes we need to create more ways for small businesses to have access to capital and has promised to continue to be a leader on this issue,” continues Dorfman. “Senator Landrieu’s work has empowered women business owners to achieve greater financial success thereby strengthening and elevating middle class families,” states Dorfman. “I watched how hard Mary Landrieu worked on behalf of women and small businesses and know that many Louisiana businesses have been touched by her efforts,” continues Dorfman. “And now, as chair of both the Senate Committee on Energy and National Resources (the first woman ever to chair this committee) and the Senate Appropriations Homeland Security Committee, Senator Landrieu is uniquely poised to keep Louisiana in leadership for energy and appropriations. This is the type of valuable leadership that comes from Landrieu’s experience and respect in the Senate that will have a long-term return for the citizens of Louisiana.”

“Louisiana has a great, committed and focused leader in Senator Mary Landrieu. She is in tune with the needs of Louisiana communities and will always be an independent, thoughtful and effective leader in Washington. We are proud to endorse her candidacy and look forward to her continued strong leadership in Washington, DC.”
