Two young men meet in Boston, in the summer of 1995, on a bus headed west. An immediate spark of passion ignites. Damon, 23 and Carlos, 26 become inseparable for the next few days. Damon plans to visit his sister in Texas after being disowned by his father. Carlos is heading to California in quest of a singing career. They spend three memorable days and nights in Dallas. Then it’s time to move on to Forth Worth so Damon can spend a few days with his sister, Ilka.
All seems well until Ilka gets Damon aside. She plies him with questions about Carlos and their relationship. They quarrel. Damon, in a rage, rushes out into the torrid night in an unfamiliar city.
In the aftermath of a near fatal beating and rape, Ilka implies to Damon that Carlos might have been involved. She engineers a diabolical plan to break them up. The two young men reluctantly depart in separate directions.
During the next ten year period, Damon pursues Reparative Therapy and later marries Joan, a nurse he met at the hospital. Carlos goes on to become a rock star legend. But he can’t shake his love for Damon. To assuage his demons, he experiments with drugs and alcohol, after being diagnosed with HIV, Carlos longs to see Damon one more time.
Joan confronts Damon. They must end their eight year marriage. She tearfully confesses, the ghost of Carlos hovers between them.
