Glendale, CA - The Winter Shelter program has opened its doors for the 2015/2016 season.  The shelter is located at 1219 Los Angeles Street in the City of Glendale, is operated by Ascencia, and sponsored by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LASHA), in cooperation with the City of Glendale, and the City of Burbank.

The program will be open every night from November 16, 2015 through March 31, 2016, and will serve up to 80 clients, of whom must be adults. The shelter provides meals, showers, and a warm place to sleep.  Families needing winter shelter assistance will be referred to other arrangements and should call 818-246-7900, ext. 100.  Shelter hours are 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

While utilizing the shelter, participants are encouraged to avail themselves of case management, information, and referral services in order to be connected to year around programming within the Glendale Continuum of Care, such as the Ascencia Access Center. The Ascencia Access Center is located

at 1851 Tyburn Street in Glendale. The Center provides intake and assessment, case management,

counseling, drug and alcohol recovery referrals and placement, employment assistance, psychiatric

services, and housing placement.

“As a first year Councilmember, I wanted to make sure that my participation in serving the citizens of Glendale made an impact on people’s lives. By working with local property owners, Ascencia and stakeholders in the community, we were able to secure a facility to serve the homeless during what is likely to be a very wet winter,” stated Councilmember Vartan Gharpetian.
