The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Announces Ken Dunek as Candidate For Man of the Year

Ken Dunek will Join Local Leaders to Compete for the Title of Man of the Year

The New Jersey Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is pleased to announce that Ken Dunek of Mount Laurel has been nominated as a candidate for LLS’s 2015 Man of the Year. Candidates across the country compete in honor of a local boy or girl who is a blood cancer survivor, to raise the most funds for blood cancer research.

Dunek, Publisher at JerseyMan and PhillyMan Magazine, is one of an elite group of community and business leaders who will compete for the titles of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year.  Competing for these titles is an honor surrounded with a great deal of fanfare, including a full-page ad in USA Today.  However the most important reason candidates participate is to find cures for blood cancers and ensure that patients have access to lifesaving treatments.  “As a parent of a daughter stricken with cancer, I know the pain associated with this disease,” said Ken Dunek. “My goal is to raise $100,000 and link our team’s efforts with an LLS pediatric blood cancer research portfolio.  My hope is to help eliminate pediatric cancer in our lifetime. I hope everyone will join our team by making a donation to this worthwhile effort.”

As a candidate, Dunek will raise funds for a world without blood cancers between March 16 and May 28, 2015.  Every dollar he raises will count as one “vote” in his favor. The male and female candidates with the most “votes” will be awarded the titles New Jersey Man & Woman of the Year at a Grand Finale Gala on Thursday May 28 at Windows on the Water in Sea Bright, NJ.  The local winners are then entered into the competition for National Man & Woman of the Year titles.

“The Man & Woman of the Year program is a great way for candidates to partner with other influential people in their communities to bring hope to thousands of blood cancer patients,” said Deputy Executive Director Gina Murdoch. “Candidates get to showcase their fundraising and community outreach skills as well as their humanitarianism.”

There are many ways you can support Dunek in his quest for a world without blood cancers.  Become a member of his campaign team, sponsor a table the Grand Finale Gala on May 28, 2015, or simply pledge to make a donation during his campaign.  To learn more about Man & Woman of the Year visit, www.MWOY.org/nj
