The Law Offices of Lynda L. Hinkle Welcomes Two New Attorneys

Bryna Batten and Alicia Hutchinson bring strong skills and varied experience to the successful law firm

The Law Offices of Lynda L. Hinkle is pleased to announce that Bryna Batten and Alicia Hutchinson have joined the firm as Attorneys-at-Law.

Bryna Batten comes to the firm with a diverse background in law, public policy, children's rights and volunteerism. She received her J.D. from Widener University, while also volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware and participating in the Delaware Civil Clinic. She studied Comparative Family Law and International Environmental Law at the University of Nairobi, in Kenya, and received her M.A. in International Relations and American Politics at Pepperdine University School of Public Policy. She did volunteer work for Family Promises, a non-profit that focused on child homelessness in Cape May County, NJ. She earned her B.A. in Sociology and Women’s Studies at Merrimack College in Massachusetts, where she also spent four years playing Division 2 women’s basketball and volunteering for New Horizons for Youth and the Andover Housing Authority.

She worked as a clerk for Judge Michael J. Blee at the Atlantic County Civil Court House, an experience she said was, “The best decision I could have made.  I learned so much about what goes on behind the scenes in a courtroom.”

Her work for Judge Blee nurtured her growing interest in child advocacy. “We dealt with a lot of family law cases, and I was bothered by how often children get lost in the mix,” she said, “I was really moved to do something about it, and I think this led to me developing a more compassionate approach to the practice of law.”

Bryna comes from a family steeped in the law: “My father is a Superior Court Judge, my older sister is an attorney, and my little sister just passed the bar,” she said, “I guess you could say it’s a family thing. My mom is a teacher, however, so maybe that’s where I get my interest in helping children.

“When I was in kindergarten, my mom told me I could change the world. I still believe her, and I’m still trying.”

Alicia Hutchinson was born in Utah, and grew up New Hampshire, West Germany, North Carolina, California, and Delaware. The daughter of a non-commissioned U.S. Air Force officer, she credits her father’s influence, as well as her upbringing on U.S. military bases, for developing her discipline, drive and big-picture view of the world.

Alicia received her J.D. in 2009 from Rutgers University School of Law, where she was honored with a Marshall-Brennan Fellowship and a Dean’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence. While at Rutgers she was chosen to work as Research Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Alicia earned her B.A. at Southern New Hampshire University, where she was named Senior of the Year in the Political Science Department and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

After passing the bar, she did legal contract and per Diem work for major corporations, before becoming a law clerk for Judge Noah Bronkesh of the Superior Court of New Jersey. It was there that her interest in Family Law developed.

“I was an unusual hire, with a very different background,” she said, “but Judge Bronkesh focused on Family Law, and that stuck with me. I liked the fact that I could improve the lives of real people in ways that were visible and tangible.”

“I’m looking forward to being able to put my knowledge and experience to work at this wonderful, growing law firm.”
