The Austin Focus Highlights Travel Opportunities

Team members at The Austin Focus use travel opportunities as incentives and means to develop their skills. The company's director of operations offered some tips for travelers.

“At The Austin Focus, we take professional development seriously,” said Kati, the director of operations. “Part of that process involves attending conferences and industry events. When our associates take advantage of these travel opportunities, their knowledge grows beyond their areas of expertise.”

Kati and the management team at The Austin Focus understand that corporate travel brings unique advantages to the work experience. “When our associates travel, they meet others in their line of work,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to learn from industry experts. Also, they establish relationships with colleagues who could impact their careers. I’ve seen some interesting opportunities arise from these occasions.”

"Incentive travel is another thing we like to promote at The Austin Focus,"

Kati, Director of Operations

“Incentive travel is another thing we like to promote at The Austin Focus,” added Kati. “Our team works hard during the year. Therefore, it’s nice to say thank you to the individuals who have made extraordinary contributions toward our success.”

This year, management selected Caroline C. and Callie G. to go to the Bahamas. This trip is the firm’s biggest event, so leadership carefully considers who will attend. “Caroline was an outstanding leader in our marketing group this year, where she exceeded our expectations,” said Kati. “As a member of our student team, Callie’s impressed us with her ability to challenge her personal and professional limits. We appreciate their stellar efforts.”

The Austin Focus’ Director Offers Handy Travel Tips

Though there are numerous travel benefits, the experience of hitting the road can be daunting. “The life of a jet-setter can appear glamorous,” said Kati. “However, anyone with travel experience will tell you that living out of a suitcase has its challenges. That’s why it’s helpful to hear suggestions from established road warriors.”

“First, pack less than you think you will need,” said Kati. “Chances are, you aren’t going to wear half of the clothes you bring with you.” Instead of using a suitcase that needs to be checked, Kati suggests that members of The Austin Focus team bring a carry-on bag with them. “If your flight gets changed in the middle of your trip, you will always have your bag with you,” she added.

Before leaving, Kati recommends that travelers charge all of their electronic devices. “You don’t want to be searching for an electrical outlet in the departure lounge,” said Kati. “When you board the plane charged up and ready to go, you have the option to get some work done, listen to music, or more. Being prepared is the most comfortable way to travel.”
