Team Sparkle to Run So Cal Ragnar Relay Series, Raise Money for Rett Syndrome Research

Huntington Beach, CA, April 9, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Sparkle Athletic, the premier online retailer of running gear and outfits for women, is sending six women to Southern California to participate in the So Cal Ragnar Relay Series on April 10 and 11. Their team, known as “Team Sparkle”, will be raising awareness of Rett syndrome and funds for the research of this disease.

Rett syndrome is a rare genetic disorder found predominantly in females. It affects X chromosomes on a specific gene known as MECP2, resulting in neurological problems including reduced cognition, reduced sensory function, motor function impairment, speech impediment, emotional problems, and difficulty with chewing, swallowing and digesting. The most recent statistics suggest there are as many as 2 million victims of this disease alive today.

Team Sparkle's Ultra Ragnar team ran the So Cal race last year and raised $30,000 for Girl Power 2 Cure, a national non-profit organization with a mission to raise awareness and funds for Rett syndrome. They hope to top that amount this year as they once again team up with Girl Power 2 Cure in #Ragnar4Rett.

While running the So Cal Ragnar, the team will raise money based on their performance. Every time a Team Sparkle runner wearing a sparkly skirt (a signature trademark of Sparkle Athletic) passes another runner, the company will donate $5 to Girl Power 2 Cure. The better the runners do, the more money will be raised. In addition to  Team Sparkle raising money while running in Southern California, as many as 800 additional runners will be helping the cause by participating in the #teamsparkle “virtual” 5K race – the profits from which are also being donated to Girl Power 2 Cure.
