November 2015: The Taiwan Tourism Bureau attended London’s World Travel Market from November 2-5 in order to promote Taiwan’s rich culture and heritage.

This year’s WTM also provided the Taiwan Tourism Bureau with the ideal platform to share the successes of the past year with key industry professionals and media.

2015 has been a spectacular year for Taiwan Tourism Bureau in the UK market with the number of British people visiting Taiwan exceeding last year’s figures. Between January and August 2015 there was an increase of 1.87% of British arrivals in Taiwan compared to the same period last year – making the UK Taiwan’s largest outbound market in Europe. Taiwan has welcomed over 60,000 visitors from the UK this year.

Coupled with this, the past year has seen seven new UK tour operators selling Taiwan products, with now over fifty operators selling the destination. The Tourism Bureau has extended agent reach through involvement with PATA, engaging with key sellers and product managers at the regional PATA quizzes and the Taste of PATA event.

Oh! Bear’-Taiwan’s tourism ambassador proved very popular with visitors as did the ‘Taiwan Happy Hour’, which this year was inaugurated by TV chef, Ching-He Huang. Visitors were also invited to immerse themselves in Taiwanese culture through experiencing a traditional Taiwanese Tea Ceremony and traditional dance as provided by the Wave Dance troupe, flown over especially from Taipei.

A tea ceremony was performed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am and 3pm to give visitors the opportunity to really experience this element of Taiwanese culture and hospitality. An open invitation to attend the ceremony was issued to UK travel trade attendees. The session served to both to promote Taiwan as a general travel destination, and allow for the Taiwanese delegation to take the opportunity to engage with visitors to the stand in an informal atmosphere and talk about the attractions of Taiwan.

The Tourism Bureau delegation held several meetings over the duration of the show with key partners, media and tour operators in order to explore opportunities to further promote the destination.
