SOLitude Lake Management Professionals Win Awards for Excellence in Water Quality Treatment

Virginia Beach, VA, December 2, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Eight water quality management professionals from SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the United States, won “Seeing is Believing” awards from SePRO Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of high quality, environmentally responsible solutions for aquatic plant management. These awards recognize the highest standard of excellence in water quality treatment for lakes, ponds, stormwater basins or other waterbodies that have demonstrated the effectiveness of SePRO products in improving these aquatic ecosystems.

The SOLitude Lake Management professionals were named for these awards at the 2015 SePRO Preferred Applicator Seminar in November at the the SePRO headquarters in Carmel, Indiana. Each award submission consisted of a case study highlighting a project with before and after photos and a detailed treatment summary for the waterbody including reason for treatment and chosen course of action, treatment and waterbody specifics, weather conditions, map of the waterbody or wetland and treatment area, water quality, end user satisfaction, and special circumstances.

A sample of case study submissions which resulted in these honors are as follows:

Shannon Junior, Aquatic Ecologist, for the successful treatment of toxic cyanobacteria blooms in a 104 acre drinking water reservoir in Crozet, Virginia where the residents were concerned about the usage of herbicides and algaecides. She also won for the successful treatment along a 1.5 acre area of the Potomac River in Virginia plagued with dense hydrilla and duckweed at the shoreline resulting in collected debris, dead animals and the reduced use by watercraft.

Derek Johnson, Certified Lake Manager and Fisheries & Wildlife Scientist, for the successful treatment of thick pithophora algae in a 1.4 acre stormwater pond for a medical center in Suffolk, Virginia, for the treatment of planktonic algae in a 0.33 acre stormwater pond for an international automotive manufacturer in Newport News, Virginia and the successful treatment of pithophora algae in a 2.45 acre lake in Smithfield, Virginia.

Aaron Cushing, Fisheries & Wildlife Biologist and Environmental Scientist, for the successful treatment of duckweed in a 2.5 acre private pond in Scottsburg, Virginia with more than 75 percent aquatic weed coverage along with low dissolved oxygen, and the successful treatment of a 2 acre private pond in Charlottesville, Virginia stocked with fish, which was 70 percent covered with surface mats of filamentous algae.

Brent Weber, Environmental Scientist, for the successful treatment of a 0.6 acre private pond in Beaverdam, Virginia to reduce the thick growth of watershield, which was limiting the fish habitat and aesthetics.

Kyle Finerfrock, Environmental Scientist, for the successful treatment of nuisance wideon grass in a Homeowners’ Association’s 1.5 acre stormwater pond in Hampton, Virginia, which had been previously unresponsive to treatment.

Hunter Poland, Environmental Scientist, for the successful treatment of severely thick filamentous algae in a 0.16 acre pond, which was clogging recirculation pumps and becoming unsightly on a golf course in Gainesville, Virginia.

David Riedl, Environmental Scientist, for the successful treatment of slender pond weed in a 2 acre private pond in Leesburg, Virginia, which was limiting recreational use.

Kris New, Aquatic Specialist, for the successful treatment of thick filamentous algae in a 10 acre lake for a homeowners association in New Iberia, Louisiana.
