September Lineup of Featured Artists for The Rising Art, Music, and Spoken Word Show

Louisville, KY, September 1, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The Rising Art, Music, and Spoken Word Show is a monthly open-mic and art exhibition series, whose mission is to give local emerging performing artists, writers, and fine artists a platform to share art, music, and words. The show is co-sponsored by Louisville Area Realtors and Blackacre Nature Preserve and Historic Homestead and runs from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Patty Barnes was raised in Duluth, MN. She spent nearly 10 years working with the Kentucky Humane Society and now Patty enjoys activities with her church and taking photos. Married for 32 years to Jim, a 21-year Air Force Veteran, Patty lived in Germany for 4 years where she got to see much of Europe. She later lived another 4 years in Northern Japan. Patty has also traveled extensively throughout the United States, as well as to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and Newfoundland. Rebecca Mach was born in Eastern Central Kentucky where she witnessed live string band and country blues music in its original context – afternoon gatherings on front porches and in country stores. All aspects of the visual arts have been a part of Rebecca's life for as long as she can remember. Music is something she pursued later. She took piano lessons around the age of 12 and expanded her musical interests. 8 years ago Rebecca picked up the mandolin and a guitar, dusted off the harmonica, kazoo, porch board, and a variety of kitchen and household utensils. She redefined her piano techniques and embraced the music of her roots. Rebecca now feels an obligation, as a form of gratitude to the art form, to hone her abilities and to pass the experience forward to others.

Robin Mach grew up surrounded by music. With multi-instrumentalist siblings including two classically trained older brothers and an older sister as well as musically inclined parents, any given day could bring exposure to music ranging from Buxtehude to B.B. King, from Benny Goodman to The Byrds and from David Bromberg to Iron Butterfly. Heavily influenced by memories of the folk scene of the sixties, Mach learned to play guitar at age 13 on an instrument his oldest brother had rescued from a garbage can. Now, almost four decades later with the guitar as his primary instrument, he cites such globally and stylistically diverse songwriting influences as Bola Sete,  Alexey Arkhipovsky, and Arlo Guthrie as he writes songs focused on telling a story, whether it be an intimate portrait of the harm done by self-delusion or the devastating effect war can have on love. His music has been featured on CDs from the Heartland Songwriters Association of Kentucky and he is now working on his debut solo CD.

Michael Wayne Hampton grew up on the hills of eastern Kentucky, and received his BA in English from the University of Kentucky before earning his MFA in Writing from Spalding University. He serves as an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College. Michael is the author of three books, and his work has appeared in The Southeast Review, 3AM Magazine, and McSweeney's. His writing has won awards such as The Deerbird Novella Prize, and an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council. You can find out more on his website at michaelwaynehampton.com.
