Safeguard Self Storage facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey will begin producing solar power as of October 17, 2014. Safeguard has solar power system installations underway in 25 other storage facilities.

Safeguard Self Storage announces that it will begin producing solar power at its Elizabeth, New Jersey store on October 17, 2014.  The solar power system was acquired from Trinity Solar, a major retailer and installer of solar power systems in the northeastern United States.  The solar power system is designed to produce 129.6 KW of electricity which is expected to be about 80% of the store’s electricity needs.

The company does not intend to stop there.  Installations of solar power systems are underway at 25 other stores in the company’s portfolio in New Jersey and New York which are slated to come online and produce power starting later this year and early in 2015.  In addition, the company already has a solar power system fully operational at its Thornwood, New York store.  That system provides over two-thirds of the store’s needs.

The system will drive NOI higher while at the same time fulfilling the desires of its customers that it act as a good corporate citizen by initiating these types of environmentally friendly undertakings.
