Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Volunteers their Hearts and Hands Throughout Community

Union Carpenters Offer Their Hearts & Talents

In the spirit of giving, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (www.northeastcarpenters.org) has participated in a number of recent volunteer projects, lending their craftsmanship skills to a greater good wherever possible.

The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) team played a key role in the “Tooling Around the Township” program, an initiative to repair the homes of senior citizens, disabled and low-income residents of Woodbridge, N.J. Several volunteers also worked on a project in Middlesex, building a wheelchair accessible ramp, lift, and various indoor home modifications for a local child with muscular dystrophy.

“It’s the least we can do to give back to our community,” said Anthony Abrantes, NRCC council representative. “Our team of carpenters has a skill that can be a major relief to local people in need of an extra hand. If we can use those skills for a greater good, we’re doing our job.”

In March, members hosted a food drive to donate to the Hands of Hope food pantry in Edison, N.J., and proudly walked in the 5th Annual De-FEET Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk. In late April, the union carpenters from Local 254 hosted a blood drive to benefit the Red Cross.

“I’m proud to work alongside a team that can step back from their own lives and workload for a while and fill a need in the community,” said Jason Friedman, NRCC council representative for  Local 252. “Whether it’s helping a whole group with a program like a food drive, or building a ramp for one specific child in need, we’re always glad we can lend a hand.”
