No Oversight of National Court Reporter Association Exams

Improper Testing Procedures with National Court Reporters Association

Court reporters play an integral role in the legal process and are responsible for creating an accurate record of legal proceedings. The National Court Reporters Association is one entity who tests and certifies these highly trained professionals to ascertain skill level. Sadly, the RPR (Registered Professional Reporter), NCRA's entry level certification is being challenged in Michigan by court reporter, Angel Berry, who says that her exam was altered at a Michigan testing site on May 4, 2013. Ms. Berry alleges that the scored exam that she received from the National Court Reporters Association was not the exam that she submitted, and states improper testing procedures occurred at the testing site where she took her exam. In answer to Ms. Berry's allegations, the NCRA, by expert analysis, came to the conclusion that the exam allegedly submitted by Ms. Berry was in PDF format. In the second polygraph test passed by Ms. Berry, it was proved that she did not submit her exam in PDF format. This begs the question: How did Ms. Berry's exam become a PDF file?
