NJ Dept of AG Spring Nursery Tour Urges Residents to Plant Something

Media Advisory for May 4 Plant Something Launch Event and NJ Department of Agriculture Spring Nursery Tour - Encouraging Residents and Businesses to Patronize NJ Nurseries, Garden Centers, Landscapers.

Plant something and live a better life.  That's the message the NJ Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher and the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association (NJNLA) will be spreading on May 4 with the launch of NJ’s Plant Something™ campaign (www.plantsomethingnj.org) at Condurso’s Garden Center in Montville.

Secretary Fisher will present a statewide proclamation declaring the week of May 3 “Plant Something Week,” in the Garden State.  Rutgers Master Gardener John Smith and NJNLA Executive Director Dominick Mondi will also be on hand to explain how to get started on your first garden!

"The Plant Something campaign is designed to resonate with people who might not be your typical gardeners. We want to connect with non-gardeners and create long-term awareness of the benefits that plants will provide for them, their families and their communities."

Dominick Mondi, NJNLA Executive Director

The Plant Something campaign promotes the benefit of plants, thanks to a specialty crop block grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

These benefits include higher property values, increased health and well being, and improved environmental quality -- not to mention the fun and satisfaction that come from planting something and watching it grow. Many consumers, especially new homeowners, may not be aware of these benefits, but the NJNLA is hoping to change that.

"The Plant Something campaign is designed to resonate with people who might not be your typical gardeners," NJNLA Executive Director Dominick Mondi said. "We want to connect with non-gardeners and create long-term awareness of the benefits that plants will provide for them, their families and their communities."

The Plant Something website provides numerous consumer resources including a NJ Retail Nurseries and Garden Centers Guide.

The New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association is a trade association representing the nursery, greenhouse, landscape, and retail garden center industries in the Garden State.  The NJNLA’s goal is to advance the commercial horticulture industry through networking, education, promotion and advocacy.
