According to ASPCA, there are millions of animals living in the streets and a large reason for this is that many pet owners simply abandon them. In the book, Patches, the main character is a calico cat that is abandoned in South Florida. Along with the issues of animal abandonment, the book also addresses bullying. In the book, long haired cats and short haired cats do not get along because they do not accept the way the other looks. By addressing topics like animal neglect and bullying, Elizabeth Grace hopes to raise awareness for these topics to children at a young age.

“Although the topics addressed in the book are very serious, the book itself is still very fun and enjoyable for children,” Elizabeth Grace, author of the book said. “Animal abuse and neglect as well as bullying are a big problem in South Florida and beyond. My hope is that children reading this book will understand the importance of properly caring for pets and being kind to one another.”

Patches is available through Amazon for $3.99 for Kindle Version and $10.99 for Print Edition. To purchase the book, visit http://www.amazon.com/dp/0692279121.
