National Travel and Tourism With Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau

The Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will be celebrating the travel industry throughout the week of May 2 -10, 2015 for the 32ndAnnual National Travel and Tourism Week.

The week will be highlighted with a travel rally on Tuesday, May 5th. As part of the celebration, the CVB plans to deliver a morning treat to their tourism partners throughout the community.

“We have an excellent relationship with our attractions, hotels, restaurants and stores,” said Rashelle Beasley, CVB Director. “This week gives us an opportunity to thank each one of our industry partners and educate the community on the economic impact tourism generates in Albany-Dougherty County.”

National Travel and Tourism Week provides communities a chance to celebrate what travel means to jobs and economic growth. Tourism in Albany/Dougherty County contributes over $213.86 million in direct tourist spending, supports 2,020 jobs, created $8.13 million in state tax revenues, and generated $6.33 million in local tax revenues. Each Dougherty County household received $396.08 in tax relief per household, as a result of the taxes generated by tourism economic activity.

Travel jobs range from airport and hotel employees to attraction, restaurants, and retail workers. Georgia’s tourism industry supports over 411,000 jobs, making it the state’s 5th largest employer with a total economic impact of $53.6 billion.

Nationally, tourism provided $2.1 trillion in economic output and $927.9 billion in direct travel-related spending in the U.S. by domestic and international travelers in 2014; generated $141.5 billion generated in federal, state and local tax revenues in 2014, and supported 15 million American jobs - 8 million direct tourism jobs and 7 million indirect and induced jobs.
