Money Magazine Names National Association to Stop Guardian Abuse (NASGA) Director, Sylvia Rudek, as 2014 Illinois "Money Hero"

Mount Prospect, Illinois, July 20, 2014 (Newswire.com) - NASGA is pleased and honored to announce Director Sylvia Rudek has been chosen as Illinois 2014 Money Hero.   Sylvia’s dedication to guardianship reform began with the loss of her beloved aunt, Helen Fabis, in 2001.  She was instrumental in getting the perpetrator in her aunt’s case criminally charged and sent to prison.  Soon after joining NASGA, she became an Officer & Director and volunteers well over 40 hours a week to our organization whose purpose is to reform guardianship law and stop guardianship abuse. 

Sylvia lives in Mount Prospect, Illinois, (Cook County) and also concentrates on reform in her state.   She consulted and worked with Representative David Harris (R), resulting in the introduction of HB5573 for the purpose of strengthening and empowering advance directive and powers of attorney.  And she also worked with Senator Steve Stadelman on SB1051 which was then introduced in the House by Representative Harris and quickly passed.  And she continues to consult with both legislators on future legislation to protect the elderly and disabled citizens of Illinois.

To obtain reform – through outreach, education and advocacy – by meaningful amendment of existing statutes and increased penalties against violations of law.

NASGA is honored Money Magazine recognized guardianship abuse as a threat to elderly and disabled persons and that they came to NASGA for that reason.  NASGA members have known Sylvia Rudek is a hero for many years and not only applaud her for being recognized as such but are grateful for the attention her recognition brings to our organization and our cause.
