Michelle Harvey Appointed To State Board of Food and Agriculture

Michelle Harvey, co-owner of Lakeview Nurseries, has been appointed by MA Governor Charlie Baker to the State Board of Food and Agriculture. Representative Stephen L. DiNatale (D Fitchburg) will be at Lakeview Nurseries on Friday, June 12, at 10:00 am to administer the oath of office to Harvey.

Michelle Harvey, co-owner of Lakeview Nurseries, has been appointed by MA Governor Charlie Baker to the State Board of Food and Agriculture. Representative Stephen L. DiNatale (D Fitchburg) will be at Lakeview Nurseries on Friday, June 12, at 10:00 am to administer the oath of office to Harvey.

Harvey will serve one of six new positions on the Board as its composition was recently expanded by statute (Chapter 287, Section 7, Acts of 2014) from seven to thirteen.

Over the past two years, Harvey has worked to spread information and increase awareness about bee decline. She was recognized with an appointment to the National Pollinator Task Force The NPTF is a broad based agricultural stakeholder group focused on finding scientific based solutions to improve pollinator health.

The Board of Food and Agriculture represents the interests of agriculture to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) Boards and Commissions and provides input on policy development and budgetary decisions.

As a member of the State Board of Food and Agriculture, Harvey plans to bring energy and positive change working to keep Massachusetts' food supply safe and secure and to keep Massachusetts agriculture economically and environmentally sound.

Michelle Harvey is the third generation to operate Lakeview Nurseries She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UMASS Amherst. She has served on the Board of Directors and was past President of the Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association. She has also served as an elected Board Member and Chairman of the Board for Master Nursery Garden Center. Currently, she serves on the Industry Advocacy Committee for American Horticulture. She is Vice President of New England Grows, a green industry annual trade show held in Boston.
