Highlands Oncology Group Supports National Minority Health Month in April

Highlands Oncology Group (HOG), Northwest Arkansas’ leading cancer treatment facility, is deeply committed to cancer awareness and overall health for each resident in NWA

April marks the 30th annual National Minority Health Month, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

During National Minority Health Month in April, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) joins with its partners in raising public awareness about  health and health care disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minorities and efforts to advance health equity.

HOG is committed to cancer awareness throughout Northwest Arkansas communities.

Cancer is a devastating disease which claims millions of lives each year. In 2008, 7.6 million people died of cancer; 13 percent of all deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of cancer in the world causing 22 percent of cancer deaths. More than 30 percent of cancer could be prevented, mainly by not using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active and moderating the use of alcohol, according to the WHO.

As the leading cancer treatment and research facility in Northwest Arkansas, HOG is dedicated to the advancement of cancer treatment and to providing patients with the best possible care and results.
