Hastings & Hastings Speaks on the Advancements in Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

Technology moves forward in leaps and bounds. New discoveries and inventions are constantly being announced. Hybrid and electric cars are increasing in popularity and availability. These vehicles use alternative fuel sources which lower emissions and cut down on pollution. Where once electronic cars were a rarity, now it is hard to spend a day out on the streets without seeing one.

Hastings & Hastings stands in full support of the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The current hybrid and electric car boom can be traced back to the global economic recession of the 2000s. The recession cast a light on wasteful and extravagant economic practices. Vehicles with low fuel efficiency became unpopular. The cost of running them was simply too high. The hybrid vehicle market took off in response.

In 2004, Tesla Motors started developing what would be one of the first mass produced modern electric cars, the Tesla Roadster. It became widely available in 2008. Electric cars entirely forgo the use of fossil fuels. Rather, they are driven by electric motor, which runs off of a rechargeable battery. On average, an electric car is three times as energy efficient as a traditional vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. Hastings & Hastings supports a move towards energy efficiency, as it could be a positive not just for consumers, but for the world as a whole.

As an alternative for those who do not wish to drive a fully electric vehicle, there exists a large hybrid vehicle market. These vehicles, like the iconic Toyota Prius, make use of an internal combustion engine, and a rechargeable electric battery. Priuses first debuted in 1997. The term ‘Prius’ is derived from Latin, and roughly means “to go before.” Toyota chose this name because they anticipated the growing hybrid vehicle trend, and because the Prius was one of the first vehicles of its kind.

Today, incredible technological advances are being made. In late September, Tesla Motors began delivering its new Tesla Model X to individuals who had reserved the car. The Model X is completely electronic and runs off of two power lithium-ion battery packs. It is one of the most powerful fully electronic vehicles ever made, and can go 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. Its battery range is approximately 310 miles.
