Government Agencies Increasing RFPs for Body Worn Cameras

Trends in Law Enforcement Body Camera Bids. BidPrime's data indicates an increase in the number of government bids and RFPs in the last three years. In addition, certain states are spearheading the purchase of this technology.

BidPrime, an Austin based company which provides real-time notification of new government bids and contract opportunities, has released an analysis on the purchases of body-worn cameras. The data from this report indicates that the number of government bids and RFPs have doubled year over year since 2012. 

Jim Ward, BidPrime’s VP of Business Development, noted, “The topic of body-worn cameras has just recently entered the public lexicon in light of recent events.” Ward continued, “The data compiled by our analysts demonstrate that law enforcement agencies are increasing the quantity of their bids. With the continued focus on this subject matter, there will undoubtedly be further growth in 2015.”

Year over year increases in government bids and RFPs for body-worn cameras:

2012: 33 government bids issued in the US.
2014: 86 government bids issued in the US, ~50% growth year over year since 2012. Prior to 2012, there were very few purchases of body-worn cameras.

Some areas are already in the process of implementing body-worn cameras across the United States:

Illinois and Ohio issued the most government bids for body-worn cameras in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Texas issued the most bids and RFPs. As of 2014, every major metropolitan area in Texas has issued bids, RFPs or RFIs for body-worn cameras.

1) Illinois
2) Ohio
3) California
4) Virginia
5) Texas
