With 15 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Ayala brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular, to his area of expertise, otolaryngology. When asked why he decided to pursue medicine as a career, Dr. Ayala referred to his experience accompanying his mother, who was diagnosed with Lupus when he was a child, to the doctor's office. He said:
"My mother instilled in me the desire to do more and to do it better with hard work and education. I was always around doctors and I knew I always wanted to be just like these doctors that were helping my Mom."
Dr. Ayala's medical career began in the military. He attended university on a scholarship from the U.S. Navy, and medical school on a scholarship from the U.S. Air Force. He began practicing as an Otolaryngologist with the U.S. Air Force, where his success earned him numerous military medals, including a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and three Meritorious Service Medals.
As a thought-leader in his industry, Dr. Ayala currently holds many academic positions. He is an ENT Elective Physician Assistant Preceptor at UT Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Military Medical School the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. Additionally he also has held many academic positions in the past, including Clinical Instructor at USC Medical School during his Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Lasky Clinic (2009-2010), and Clinical Fellow in Otology & Laryngology (2000-2004) and in Surgery (1999-2000) at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Ayala currently runs his own private practice in McAllen, Texas, Ayala ENT & Facial Plastic Surgery, PLLC. He is the first Harvard Residency trained Otolaryngologist in the under-served area of theRio Grande Valley, and knows the challenges of serving such an area. He noted:
