Business owner 'gears up' for Disability Pride Festival

Donna Dziewik, owner of 101 Mobility of Greater Milwaukee/Madison, to donate a ramp for the Third Annual Disability Pride Festival.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), citizens in Madison, Wisconsin are pleased to host the Third Annual Disability Pride Festival on July 25 in Brittingham Park.

Donna Dziewik, owner of 101 Mobility of Greater Milwaukee/Madison, has announced that she will donate a ramp for this year’s festival, as well as set up a vendor booth.

According to the Disability Pride Madison website, the annual event is held to “Celebrate the talents, skills, arts, energy, and pride of people with and without disabilities.” This year will commemorate 25 years since U.S. Congress signed the ADA, a wide-ranging law prohibiting discrimination against disabled individuals.

Dziewik, who had provided a rental ramp for a minimal fee last year, said she was excited to completely donate a ramp for accessibility at this year’s festivities.

“It is a wonderful feeling to take part in the Third Annual Disability Pride Festival,” Dziewik remarked.

Highlighting the arts, the celebration will feature music from The Figureheads, Tani Diakite and the Afrofunkstars, “Marimba Man” Ricardo Vasquez, and folk singer Elaine Kolb. There will also be entertainment from magicians Magic Morgan and Liliana, as well as belly dancer Seana Dishun.

“The people that are organizing the event make this day incredible for people that face day-to-day challenges in their lives,” Dziewik explained.

Activities taking place throughout the day include wheelchair washing/detailing, karaoke, workshops, historical displays, free massages, yoga/meditation classes, face-painting, and games.

Dziewik said 101 Mobility of Greater Milwaukee/Madison will be an exhibitor at the festival, showcasing a scooter for attendees to observe at her vendor booth.

The festival is made possible every year due to grants from Dane Arts and the Madison Arts Commission, as well as with assistance from the Wisconsin Arts Board and the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities.
