Atlanta, GA, June 22, 2015 (Newswire.com) - The Mandela Fellows arrive at a time when water has begun to assume unprecedented space in the nation’s consciousness, and enters the World Economic Forum global risks of 2015 top 5.
Arriving in Atlanta, GA today, known as Mandela Washington Fellows, 25 young business leaders are part of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) and will be involved in business, economic development, and entrepreneurial sector leadership for 6 weeks. As part of the BLEUE water, ViAzul, and Help2O commitment to water stewardship and communicating the value of water - Water is Life Founder/CEO Ken Surritte will address the Mandela Fellows at the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) business school July 15th, 9:00am.
Water As A Catalyst For Building Resiliency In Face Of Climate Change
As part of the The Business and Entrepreneurship component of YALI, the fellows will learn first hand about incubating a socially responsible business as well as the importance of water in the global landscape. The YALI program is administered by the U.S. Department of State to enhance leadership skills, spur entrepreneurship and connect young African leaders with one another and with Americans. Over 500 leaders come to the United States annually for leadership training, academic coursework and mentoring. Program participants then put those new skills to practical use to propel economic growth and prosperity and strengthen democratic institutions in their home countries. Clark Atlanta University (CAU) is one of only 20 universities across the U.S. chosen to host a YALI group.
The Mandela Fellows will have 6 weeks of business leadership programs as part of the Presidents’ America - Africa partnership with unprecedented access to business leaders and public sector best practices. At the end of their stay in CAU participants will travel to Washington, D.C., for a three-day Presidential Summit.
WATER IS LIFE - KEN SURRITTE After founding an organization that supports orphanages, Ken was working in Kenya providing a much needed well for a children's home. But even after the well was drilled, he found that children were still getting sick. After checking the well several times, he discovered that the source of the problem was that the "drinking fountain" at school was a stagnate pond. He thought, "What can we give the kids to take to school with them so they have clean water?" From this, the WATERisLIFE filtration straws were born, and in 2009 WATERisLIFE was created. Ken is the heart behind WATERisLIFE.
