Biwater's Package Water Treatment Plant 'BiPAK' to Benefit Urban Municipality of Solano, Philippines

Modular configuration and compact design is a winning combination for high population density area of Solano

: In the Philippines, Biwater have been awarded a project to design and construct a 10 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant for the district of Solano in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, which is located on the island of Luzon, north of Manila.

For the client, MacroAsia Corporation, Biwater’s successful package water treatment plant – ‘BiPAK’ – will deliver World Health Organisation (WHO) quality drinking water and serve an urban population of over 60,000.

"We are delighted with Biwater's overall design, along with the low capital and operating costs of the facility, which will be constructed in the coming months to deliver water to the local community in record time."

Mr. Louis Katada , MacroAsia Corporation

The benefits of the BiPAK package water treatment plant include:

  • Modular configuration
  • Easily scalable
  • Robust and efficient process
  • Reduced construction costs (CAPEX)
  • Reduced operating costs (OPEX)

Commenting on the award of this contract and the BiPAK design, Mr. Louis Katada of MacroAsia Corporation said, “We are delighted with Biwater’s overall design, along with the low capital and operating costs of the facility, which will be constructed in the coming months to deliver water to the local community in record time.”

This project is part of an effort to provide potable water to the entire population of Solano for the first time, to sustain its continued development. Although there is a water source from the Magat River – the largest tributary of the Cagayan River – there is no existing water treatment and distribution system to provide for the 60,000 local residents and businesses with a readily available and quality supply of potable water.

Solano is one of the oldest municipalities in the Philippines and was founded in the 1760’s. Since that time, it has become the central business district in Nueva Vizcaya.

About Biwater:

Biwater provides large-scale water and wastewater solutions for clients across the world. Since its inception in 1968, Biwater has gained recognition for its innovative approaches aimed at overcoming the world’s most pressing water-related challenges. Throughout its history, the company has grown to meet the demands of many water-stressed countries and their burgeoning populations. It has a successful record of accomplishment, having completed over 25,000 projects in over 90 countries – financing, consulting, process engineering, designing, constructing, operating, maintaining and owning water facilities – in both rural and urban environments.

Asia Pacific: In Asia Pacific, Biwater has completed over 240 projects to date. Eight successful projects in Indonesia alone have provided 374 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment capacity. Notably, Biwater added 1,296 kilometres of network in Batam Island, significantly increased the island’s water treatment capacity, implemented a customised billing system, added 160,000 metered connections and reduced non-revenue water to 25 percent – improving water quality and service to all.

Biwater Package Plants: In the early 1970s, Biwater identified the need to develop scalable water and wastewater treatment plants, combining efficiency and reliability with simplicity of installation and operation. Since then, Biwater has expanded its package plant range to serve populations from 2,500 to over 60,000. The full package plant line includes:

  • Biwater package water treatment plant (BiPAK)
  • A unique tubular tower water treatment plant called Biwater Tower (BiTower)
  • Biwater compact wastewater treatment plant (BiCOM)
  • Containerised reverse osmosis plants
