Andrew R. Lubin Summits Mount Kilimanjaro

Andrew R. Lubin, an attorney and partner with the firm of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Andrew R. Lubin, a partner with the law firm of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. celebrated a milestone birthday with a climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The idea took shape long before – upon reading Hemmingway’s “Snows of Kilimanjaro” in high school. Over time Andy had forgotten the novel’s story line but his desire to climb Kilimanjaro remained strong. Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the highest accessible mountains. A climber does not require technical climbing experience in order to summit, though raising 19,431 feet the mountain is not for the faint of heart.

Having set his sights on summiting, Andy trained assiduously, determined to get his body in shape. Daily exercise and hiking with a laden backpack provided physical training but the meager hills of Connecticut could not provide training for the high altitude and thin air that Andy would face. The altitude would prove to be the biggest hurdle to overcome. A longer route up the mountain is designed to acclimate climbers to the thinning air but Andy found himself laboring. Ultimately he determined that he could not think about the summit, just getting through that day’s climb. On the 7th day of the demanding climb Andy reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Jubilant, he looked out over the clouds on a thrilling and spectacular day.

Andy is pleased that he fulfilled a long held dream and accomplished his goal. He pushed himself, he was tested, and he pulled it off. What’s next? Hemmingway may know the answer.
