Oceanside Chamber Reaches 5,000 Facebook Likes

Online, July 24, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce was celebrating the milestone of becoming the first Chamber is San Diego County to reach 1,000 Facebook "Likes" last year in July of 2012. Almost exactly a year later, the Chamber has become one of the few Chambers in the nation to exceed the 5,000 "Likes" threshold.
In May of this year, the Oceanside Chamber was recognized by OnlineMBAPage.com as one of the top "Social Media Friendly Chambers of Commerce" in the country, ranking number 13 overall and number 1 in the state of California. Of the one hundred Chambers ranked, only 6 Chambers boasted 5,000 or more Facebook connections.
While advertising campaigns and an outreach to support hurricane victims in "sister city" Oceanside, NY have drawn significant traffic and support to the Chamber's Facebook page, the Chamber is really focused on interacting with the locals of Oceanside, CA.
According to the Oceanside Chamber's Sales & Marketing Director, Scott Ashton, the Chamber has used Facebook to engage both citizens and business owners. "We feel that it is very important for the Chamber to connect our local business owners with the people in and around Oceanside who are potential customers," said Ashton. "We are finding that many of our chamber members are looking for value in their membership without having to attend meetings. Our strong web and social media presence is a great way for us to support the efforts of these businesses to reach local consumers."
The Chamber makes it a point to monitor the page closely and to stay involved in conversations happening on Facebook. "We are constantly engaging with our Facebook fans, especially those who are Chamber members," said Kierstin Hill, Events and Marketing Assistant for the Chamber. "My favorite stories to post are those highlighting positive Chamber member news and welcoming new members to the Chamber. We receive much positive feedback from those types of posts as well. We really make an effort to stay up-to-date and interact with the online business community and it has paid off."
