Patriotism Should Trump Partisanship

Throughout history, Democrats and Republicans have come together in a non-partisan manner to protect our democracy. Patriotism has trumped partisanship...until now.

As you know, the President recently fired the FBI Director who was ramping up an investigation of the Administration’s ties to Russia. Senate Majority Leader McConnell, whose wife is a member of Trump’s Cabinet, has condoned Trump’s action by refusing to appoint a special prosecutor.

During the Watergate investigation, Republican Senator Howard Baker famously asked, “What did the President know and when did he know it?” Nixon’s Attorney General resigned rather than fire the independent prosecutor as Nixon ordered. This event became known as the “Saturday Night Massacre.” These Republicans put country before party.

I will not be silent when I see our democracy threatened. We cannot allow our country to be compromised by politicians who refuse to put the people and our democratic values first. We must speak out. Call your Senators and members of Congress tomorrow and demand they put the country first.
