Glenwood Hot Springs to Purchase Hotel Colorado in Early 2017

Two properties originally built in the late 1800s, Glenwood Hot Springs and Hotel Colorado reunite under one resort.

Glenwood Springs, Colo. (November 16, 2016) – Glenwood Hot Springs is currently under contract to purchase the Hotel Colorado. Completion of the sale is planned for early 2017. This marks a significant occasion due to the fact that it has been 70 years since Glenwood Hot Springs and Hotel Colorado have been owned by the same company.

Walter Devereux originally opened Glenwood Hot Springs in 1888, followed by the Hotel Colorado in 1893. Over the years, the properties were sold off individually but then they rejoined under one umbrella from 1937 to 1946. Since 1946, Hotel Colorado has operated independently, with numerous proprietors.

Kjell Mitchell, Glenwood Hot Springs C.E.O. and President said, “Hotel Colorado is an icon in the western United States and we are thrilled to reconnect it with Glenwood Hot Springs. We fully intend to preserve the character and integrity of the property.” Hotel Colorado was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 so must adhere to specific guidelines to maintain that designation. “These two places are historically significant and we plan to uphold their legacy,” says Mitchell. Plans for extensive renovations, remodeling and upgrades are in pre-development stages.

The transaction is a work-in-process with the current owners who originally purchased the property in 1989. John Bosco, Glenwood Hot Springs Vice President, COO, CFO explains, “As we continue to navigate toward closing, particulars such as purchase price and specific details are still confidential at this point. More information will be shared publicly as it becomes available.”
