#1 WNBA draft pick faces New York Liberty on first visit back
Online, June 22, 2010 (Newswire.com) - New York, New York (June 22, 2010) - Queens, New York native and basketball phenomena, Tina Charles, returns home for the first time since starting her professional WNBA career with the Connecticut Sun. The Connecticut Sun will take on the New York Liberty on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Mecca - Madison Square Garden.
Charles' lengthy list of accomplishments in the past decade solidified her ranking as the #1 pick for this years WNBA draft.
Speaking of the draft Charles reflects, "To hear my name called, let alone first, was a tremendous blessing. I was extremely happy to have a chance to stay on the east coast with the Connecticut Sun and only be two-hours away from my home in Queens."
Tina's return home will be more than just playing The Liberty. She will also break away for a mini tour of visiting her family, friends, supporters and the place where she began to shine on the court, Christ the King High School.
The WNBA Rookie of the Month for May has helped lead the Sun to a 8-3 record while leading all rookies in points and rebounds. She achieved both her career highs of 26 points and 19 rebounds this past Friday during the Sun's first road win against Los Angeles. Charles' is setting herself up as a 2010 WNBA All-Star shoe-in later in the season.
