My Girlfriend's House Celebrates The Closing Of Their Signature Fundraiser With 1,850 Donations

My Girlfriend's House celebrates the end of their third annual Purse Strings for My Girlfriends Drive by collecting 1,850 gently used and new purses for women and teenage girls living in shelters throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

My Girlfriend's House welcomes the fall season with another successful year for their Purse Strings For My Girlfriend's Drive. The campaign collected 1,850 gently used and new purses throughout the month of October to support women and teen girls in homeless shelters, group homes, and domestic abuse centers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

"Last year we collected 1,200 purses during the drive, up from the previous year's 300. This year we pulled our resources together and ended the campaign with 1,850 purses," My Girlfriend's House Founder and Executive Director Veronica Eyenga shared. "The effect of this drive is huge. We have the opportunity to offer these ladies the items they can't afford but desperately need. Now they can ring in their holiday season with one less worry. Knowing that is enough for me. I couldn't ask for more".

My Girlfriend's House could not make this huge impact on its own. The organization shattered its goals in previous years, gathering hundreds more purses than anticipated. This is thanks to the large amount of support received from the community members, corporate agencies and local organizations sympathetic to My Girlfriend's House's cause. Some of this year's large partners include Radio One, several Macy's department stores, and Young Ladies of Tomorrow, a DC-based mentoring program.

The drive is one of three initiatives under the organization's Purse Strings for My Girlfriends program, a year-long fundraising effort dedicated to empowering an impoverished community of teenage girls and women to help enhance their self-esteem and confidence. On November 10th, My Girlfriend's House will host the program's second initiative, a purse stuffing party, to fill all 1,850 purses with 15 essential personal care items and distribute them to 35 shelters in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The program will close with its final celebration of the year, the Purse Strings for My Girlfriend's Holiday Gala, on December 16th. The event will feature an evening of fashion, entertainment, and shopping as the organization celebrates the end of both a successful drive and successful year.
