LWR and Dickson Farms a Top Water & Wastewater Project
Livestock Water Recycling, Inc. and Dickson Farms are a 2013 Top Water & Wastewater Project for the installation of LWR's manure treatment system.
Online, December 18, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Water and Wastes Digest names the LWR manure treatment system at Dickson Farms a 2013 Top Project. Award winners are chosen by industry professionals based on entries being remarkable and innovative. The annual awards are presented during the WEFTEC Conference; this year's event was held in Chicago. LWR's technology, installed at Dickson Farms in New York state, recycles clean water and concentrates valuable nutrients from the dairy's livestock manure.
"We wanted to find a way to recycle nutrients and clean water back to the crops that feed the animals that produce the manure," says Ross Thurston, president at LWR, of the manure treatment system. The 6,000 sq. ft. system was LWR's first U.S. dairy farm installation.
With implementation of LWR's system, Dickson Farms has realized a cost-savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars annually resulting in a 74% reduction of treatment costs. Manure treatment costs are below 1.3 cents per gallon, and are expected to reach less than a penny per gallon. The system treats the farm's annual production of 22 million gallons of manure. The excess fertilizer nutrients, which are not spread onto the cropland, will be sold creating an additional revenue stream. These nutrients are rich in phosphorus and nitrogen.
