Herbert E. Brown is pleased to announce that his latest book is scheduled to be released on October 1st. Brown's new work is a collection of twelve Western stories about the Legendary Black Lawmen and the Buffalo Soldiers.

Southside Virginia based author, Herbert E. Brown's latest book is scheduled to be released on October 1st. Brown's new work is a collection of twelve Western stories, all featuring the kind of courageous, resourceful, and fiercely determined African-American men who stood behind the lawman's star and wore the uniform of the Buffalo Soldier. Brown spends twelve vivid tales about these multidimensional characters who embody a kind of rare honor that obliges them to freely give their lives in order to protect their homes and communities. However, they simultaneously are constantly forced to grapple with the paradox that is their reality: being black, disrespected, often despised, and discriminated against themselves, but are involved in law enforcement or the U.S. Military.

"Legendary Black Lawmen and Tales of the Buffalo Soldiers" is not only a book that will entertain the readers with its suspenseful and action packed tales, it will also inform them of the many facts concerning the true contributions that African-Americans made to the development and expansion of our nation's West. For example, the large number of all-colored towns - there were once twenty-nine such towns in the Oklahoma territory alone. Moreover, there were all-colored towns in Ohio, Kansas, Colorado, and California too. Brown explores not only the oppressive race relations between African-Americans and whites, but also the complex and very troubling relationship between African-Americans and Native Americans too: as the Buffalo Soldiers were primarily used to fight, suppress, and contain Native Americans who were popularly viewed as an impediment to white national progress.
