IUDs Are Totally Safe For Future Fertility

It is a T-shaped intrauterine device that is used as a barrier to control female fertility. There is a concern among women regarding use of this device as sometimes it causes extra bleeding and abdominal pain during menstrual period. However, IUDs are perfectly safe and they do not alter your capacity to become pregnant- a new study reveals.
In the study, researchers collected data on 562 women. These women had their IUDs removed because they wanted to have a child. About 3/4th of the women were able to conceive naturally after the removal. Average time limit for conception was 11 months after the removal. Researchers found that age and duration of IUD use were also major deciding factors.
12 of the 562 women had ectopic pregnancy and 11% of them suffered from pelvic inflammatory disease. However, there were no any pregnancy negativities. Pregnancy rates were 78% when IUDs were made up of copper. When IUD contained emergency contraceptive levonorgestrel, the rate was 74%.
Thus, research has stated that once contraceptive devices are removed, women have increased chances of conception and can have normal pregnancy. IUDs do not exert long-term effect on ability to conceive. IUDs give women a chance to control their fertility decisions and lead to emancipated lives. Hence, they can be used without any fear or hesitation when inserted by an experienced medical practitioner preceded by detailed consultation of risk assessment.
