The electric utility grid in Indiana is poised to get a little bit smarter, thanks to Providence GIS Solutions new partnership with Esri. Esri is the market leader in geographic information systems (GIS). Esri software is used in more than 300,000 organizations worldwide. This new partnership will allow Providence to help electric utilities take full advantage of GIS technologies in order to more efficiently operate and maintain their electric grid system, and prepare for the smart grid of the future.

Jason Tuck, Founder and CEO of Providence GIS Solutions said, "Many of the local utility cooperatives and Rural Electric Membership Corporations in Indiana have systems in place to manage customer information, outages, metering, payments and more, but these systems are not interoperable with each other." Tuck explained that Geographical Information Systems can bring these various data sources together to help utility managers operate more efficiently, which will ultimately translate into cost savings and lower utility bills for customers.

Providence has forged partnerships with Esri, Milsoft Utility Solutions, and Alpha Engineering, in order to provide world class software solutions to Indiana electric utilities. Providence GIS Solutions is already working with multiple Indiana electric utilities to help develop and implement a GIS strategy that saves money and takes advantage of the systems currently in place. Tuck said, "Indiana has an opportunity to lead the Midwest in the transition to a smarter electric grid, and thanks in a large part to our partnership with Esri we can look forward to do our part in making the smart grid a reality."
