India And Vietnam Joining Hands For A Responsible And Legal Wood Trade Ties
WWF-India is initiating to bring closer the two nation India and Vietnam to find new market links to have a responsible wood trade under their Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN)Programme supported by Europen Union EC SWITCH Asia Programme.
Online, November 1, 2011 (Newswire.com) - WWF-India is initiating to bring closer the two nation India and Vietnam to find new market links to have a responsible and legal wood trade ties and technology transfer between both the countries under their Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) Programme supported by Europen Union EC SWITCH Asia Programme.
The meeting was attended by more than 100 participants representing Industry associations, wood processors, manufacturers, exporters and Senior Officials from the Government.
A 13 member delegation from Vietnam facilitated by GFTN-Vietnam attended the meeting to explore the business opportunities, sharing their experiences and learning from their Indian counterparts.
Vietnam delegation was headed by Mr Nguyen Duc Minh, Director, North East Trading and Service Company Limited, Hanoi and GFTN Vietnam.
WWF-India through its GFTN Programme is helping Indian SMEs to link with international wood-trade community. This will help in shifting Indian SMEs towards certified wood procurement and export of products that are made from wood purchased from responsible sources.
As the business links between Government of India and Government of Vietnam are strengthening in last few months, as part of India's foreign policy, it becomes more important that crucial player in India's export business interact with their Vietnamese counterparts said Dr. T.R. Manoharan, Head, GFTN-India.
Vietnam SMEs delegation was delighted to know about India's vast knowledge in forest management, farm forestry practices, wood processing and manufacturing said HK Chen, TRAFFIC International.
The delegation later visited Conolly's teak plantation in Nilambur and Prosseing units in Calicut and also planted teak trees.
The Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) is WWF's initiative to eliminate illegal logging and improve the management of valuable and threatened forests.
By facilitating trade links between companies committed to responsible forestry, the GFTN creates market conditions that help conserve forests while providing economic and social benefits for the businesses and people that depend on them.
China, India and Vietnam are applying sustainable production techniques and are providing certified sustainable forest products to national and international markets.
