Grand Prairie AirHogs Welcome Fans to Home Opener and Championship

Team celebrates 2011 championship and start of 2012 season with ring ceremony, giveaways and fireworks

The Grand Prairie AirHogs, the 2011 American Association Champions, welcome fans to QuikTrip Park for its first home stand beginning May 21 to May 26. The team will start the 2012 season by celebrating in a big way with a ring ceremony, giveaways, fireworks, presentation of the 2011 championship banner and a week full of special promotions.

"We are eager to start the season and celebrate last year's success with our fans," said Scott Berry, president of the Grand Prairie AirHogs. "We are fortunate to have some of the best fans in independent baseball. As we defend our championship, we hope to give back and show our appreciation throughout the week. We have a lot of family-fun activities and giveaways planned, and look forward to re-engaging with our fans and the community."

The celebration begins Monday, May 21 at 7:05 p.m. when the AirHogs hosts the El Paso Diablos. Prior to the game, the American Association Champions will receive their 2011 championship rings, designed and manufactured by Balfour. Additionally, Jason Jennings, pitcher for the AirHogs in its championship season and formerly with the Texas Rangers, will return to throw the first pitch. Balfour and the Grand Prairie Parks & Recreation Department sponsor the opening ceremony and unveiling of the championship banner.

That evening, fans will have the opportunity to make $10 donations to the David Nicklas Organ Donor Foundation. For every $10 donation, fans will receive an entry for a chance to win a personalized championship ring, the same ring worn by players and coaches.

Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23, the AirHogs will take the field at 10:35 a.m. Grand Prairie ISD students will be in attendance at both games thanks to Grand Bank of Texas. Wednesday's game will also feature the Lone Star Region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club. The club will parade its cars around the outfield and display them for fans before and after the game.

Starting Thursday, May 24, the AirHogs will host the Kansas City T-Bones for a three-game series. During Thursday's game, Graff Chevrolet and Grand Prairie ISD will sponsor a championship "Shirt Off Your Back" giveaway allowing fans the opportunity to win the shirts worn by the team throughout the game.

Friday, May 25, local QuikTrip locations will be giving away tickets allowing fans to attend the game for free. Additionally, Parkland Community Health will give the first 1,000 fans at the game a free championship cap.

Finally, Saturday, May 26, Miller Lite will be sponsoring another "Shirt Off Your Back" giveaway. The week's celebrations will conclude with a fireworks display after the game.
