Grand Prairie AirHogs Offer "Real American Idol" For North Texans

Open auditions on April 21 to sing national anthem before home baseball games

With the advent of singing reality shows, everyone believes their songs in the shower could work anywhere. The Grand Prairie AirHogs, the 2011 American Association Champions, will give them a chance to prove it with its inaugural "Real American Idol" singing auditions on April 21, 10 a.m. at QuikTrip Park, between Verizon Theater and Lone Star Park on Belt Line Road in Grand Prairie.

"Our fans love being involved and invested in this team," said Scott Berry, president of the Grand Prairie AirHogs. "In fact, many of them are quite talented and we can't think of a better way to feature our fans' talent than to offer auditions to sing the 'Star Spangled Banner' at a baseball game. From checking off a bucket list item to fulfilling a childhood dream, this should be entertaining to watch. I'm looking forward to meeting many hopefuls on April 21."

The open auditions will begin at 10 a.m. and last until everyone has a chance to showcase their vocal talents. All contestants will sing either the national anthem or 'God Bless America' a cappella on top of the first base dugout. Judges will include executives from the AirHogs, its mascot Ace Bacon and feature special guest judge Greg Porter, infielder for the AirHogs. Both parking and participation is free.

Singers and groups of all ages are welcome. Winners will be able to sing for one or more Grand Prairie AirHogs games this championship season. Prizes will also include tickets and use of a private suite.
