Grand Central DC: 5 Years After A Fire at the Center of Adams Morgan

Online, March 31, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Grand Central--a popular sports bar, dance club, and private event venue--in the trendy Adams Morgan neighborhood north of Dupont Circle--will mark the occasion of their 5th Anniversary at 2447 18th St NW, on Friday April 6, 2012, with special $5.00 pricing, giveaways, and other surprises throughout the evening.

Co-owners Brian Vasile and Andy Seligman bought the property in the center of Adams Morgan, following a 2005 fire that did extensive damage to the Ethiopian restaurant, Fasikas, that had served the neighborhood in that location for over 20 years. "It had a good vibe and we had a lot of respect for the former owner and patrons," says Vasile. "That felt like a good foundation for our business."

Beginning in the Spring of 2006, Vasile and Seligman spent a full year planning and carrying out renovations with a vision in mind.

The interior space was re-designed with aesthetic elements characteristic of Grand Central Station in New York City, and DC's own Union Station and Metro Rail stations--all iconic and renowned in their architecture and familiar to patrons, whether residents or visitors to DC.

Perhaps most notable to Grand Central's unique interior is the hand-painted arch. A "trompe l'oiel" technique was used to create the illusion of sculptural panels, and took seven skilled artisan painters a total of 1000 hours to complete. The half-arch appears "whole" by its reflection in a full wall of mirror behind the two bars that run the length of the main level, widening the "tunnel'-like" interior typical in DC's historic row-buildings. There is even a mural of an oncoming train at the end of the tunnel, to add to the visual energy.

Grand Central's interior space is spread over three levels, all opening to each other with balconies and overlook effects, that also bring their historic train station counterparts to mind. "The openness helps the entire space feel larger and more interesting, yet entirely connected," says Vasile, "The different levels offer a variety of spaces that lend themselves really well to private parties of different sizes. I think that is why we have become such a popular place for groups to hold their social, business and fundraising events."

Grand Central has become a very popular meeting place for the 20 and 30 something crowd. The patio seating outside and DJ music inside for dancing attracts both the after work crowd and those coming for the night life.

On Friday April 6, the doors will open at 5:00 and thanks to sponsors Red Bull and Bud Light, everything in the house will be just $5.00 until 11 p.m. Autographed jerseys, gift cards, and Grand Central gear will be among the many items given away throughout the evening.
