GradSave Is Going Fee-Free to Help Customers Save Money for College

College savings registry GradSave.com eliminates fees so parents can save even more

GradSave, the leading college savings registry, announced today that it will no longer charge fees for gift transactions on its site. Like the vast majority of crowd-funding sites, GradSave was charging an operating fee, in addition to the credit card and processing fees that occur during a transaction. However, in an effort to help more customers save for college, GradSave will no longer charge any fees beyond those charged by 3rd party payment processors.

GradSave's mission is to make saving for college easy and accessible and, as the No. 1 college savings registry in the country, the company aims to make savings even more attainable for families nationwide. Removing any additional fees allows friends and family to give the gift of college education with minimal cost, and encourages more saving. Now the only fees incurred are for processing the various payment methods (e.g. credit card, debit card, or eCheck) that GradSave accepts. Other crowd-funding sites typically add 5% or more to the cost of credit card processing.

With college tuition costs rising faster than ever, and college graduate employment reaching an all-time low, it's more important than ever to save early and often. But families don't have to go it alone. By encouraging family members and friends to donate to a child's GradSave account - in lieu of less meaningful gifts -- families can generate meaningful savings for school.

"We couldn't be more excited to offer our service free to families that are saving for college. Removing all barriers that might hinder college savings has been our goal from day one," says GradSave Co-Founder, CEO and Chief GradSaver Marcos Cordero. "This is an important step to help gift-givers and families alike realize that giving the gift of a college education is not only easy, but now at a vastly reduced rate -- especially if contributors pay via eCheck. Giving the gift of a college education is now officially cheaper than even the postage on a greeting card."

With GradSave, parents and grandparents can identify a child's "College Savings Team," enter this inner circle of family and friends into their account and offer the option to give a child a recurring gift. Parents can also share their unique account URL at important milestones, such as birthdays, back to school, baby showers, and religious holidays. With these features, and GradSave's new fee-free approach, saving for school has never been easier!
